Want to get your middle schooler reading, but not sure where to start? Here are a few tips for encouraging literacy at home.
1.
ASK about what they are reading! Your student can learn a great deal
from talking about what they are reading in school. Ask their opinions
about the texts and whether or not they would make good movies.
2.
SHOW them that you’re a reader, too. Whether it be contracts for work,
the daily newspaper, or the newest New York Times best seller, modeling
reading habits will naturally encourage your children to read.
3.
EXPLORE real-life reading at museums, the Woodruff Public Library, or a
local coffee shop. Go see a movie that is based on a book!
All WMS students have received Reading Logs from Ms.
Harrell in the media center and receive opportunities throughout the
week to check out books that interest them.
